The economist's professional field of action is vast, involving functions in the most diverse sectors of the economy. Specifically, the economist acts, as a liberal professional or as a member of a public or private entity, in activities related to economic and financial planning, projections, market research and analysis and economic efficiency, investment analysis, formulation of public and organizational policies, provision of consulting services, production of reports, guidance, supervision and economic assistance.

The course offers solid training in economic theory, quantitative methods and historical and social training, providing the necessary analytical tools for its students to understand and analyze the functioning of the economic system and its various sectors. Additionally, the course provides, through optional disciplines and internship activities, extension and scientific initiation, the possibility of obtaining additional skills in areas in which Esalq/USP is internationally recognized, such as agribusiness, finance, management of natural resources, bioenergy and planning.
