The PPGRF was created in 1999 with the merger of two Master's Programs of the Department of Forestry Sciences (LCF): the PPG in Forestry Sciences created in 1976 and the PPG in Science and Technology of Madeira, created in 1991. With this merger and counting with the support of professors and researchers with international prominence, the number of professors and the range of disciplines were expanded, which enabled the creation of a well-structured program in three training options: Conservation of Forest Ecosystems, Silviculture and Forest Management and Forest Product Technology. Currently, the program has a strong national and international presence, with high-quality scientific production.

The scope is to provide an excellent educational environment for training human resources capable of producing and disseminating innovative information with a scientific, social and economic impact that help in the practice of Ecosystem Conservation, Forestry Production and Technology of timber and non-timber products.
