The Graduate Course in Microbiology proposes to form, as Doctors, independent individuals who have a researcher and professor profile, who are self-sufficient to generate and conduct new lines of research, to exercise the activities of professor and supervisor of postgraduate students.

The Master's is an academic stage that serves as a screening of candidates for the Doctorate. Its purpose is to enable professional performance in the most varied fields of application of Microbiology, as well as in undergraduate teaching. During the course period, the student must complete the minimum credits required by the Graduate Program; they are also evaluated for their dedication, progress in learning, creativity and tenacity in solving scientific problems, qualities expected of a researcher. The Master's Dissertation is expected to be an introductory experimental work and should not necessarily constitute an original scientific work.

It is intended to encourage young and dynamic elements to enter the Course, without, therefore, requiring candidates to have previous professional experience.
