It aims at a critical analysis of technological innovation and care processes related to the perioperative period. The processes of development, evaluation, incorporation, use and technological disposal have an interface with the care processes in the health area. The use of evidence-based medicine tools for the evaluation of new technologies and the focus on patient safety can collaborate to increase the culture of technological innovation and the management of this knowledge. Optimizing the quality of perioperative care processes involves standardizing procedures related to the various stages of care for surgical patients, the use of specific teaching-learning tools and compliance with national and international hospital accreditation standards for Surgical Centers and Surgical Intensive Care Units. In addition to aiming at patient safety and reducing surgical morbidity and mortality, encouraging technological innovation and the use of these technologies in the context of perioperative care processes could contribute to the development of the health industrial complex in Brazil.
