The Graduate Program in Genetics and Plant Improvement (PPG-GMP) headquartered at the Department of Genetics at ESALQ/USP, began in 1964, operating at the Master's level, and since 1970 at the Doctorate level. The PPG-GMP is one of the pioneer programs, being the oldest in its creation, in the training of human resources in Genetics and Plant Improvement in the country. The PPG-GMP has a solid, steady, and innovative track record in Genetic studies in Brazil, with international recognition. The PPG-GMP is one of the best programs in the Agricultural Area in Brazil, where it has trained more than 900 professionals who work in the development of agriculture and basic sciences in public and private institutions. 

PPG-GMP offers courses that can be classified as introductory, in order to provide a generalist base, and advanced, where discussions are induced in essential areas for professional development in genetics applied to agriculture and basic sciences. The program's professors have projects funded by Research Promotion Agencies at the Federal and State of São Paulo levels, and most of the research is carried out in collaboration with graduate students. Our program has a modern laboratory environment, as well as facilities for greenhouse research and field experiments.
