The Graduate Program in Pharmacology aims to promote the development of the students' scientific spirit and their familiarization with up-to-date information from the various areas of Pharmacology, thus enabling them to critically exercise teaching and research activities.

In order to achieve these objectives, research projects are developed in the program, using everything from classical pharmacological approaches to more recent molecular biology techniques.

The Program enjoys wide recognition, both nationally, receiving the maximum concept from CAPES (initially A and later grade seven) since its creation in 1970, and international recognition, having already graduated 352 masters and 282 doctors until December 2017. A survey A recent study showed that approximately 70% of graduated doctors are in public teaching or research institutions, 8% in private institutions, 12% in post-doctoral training and only 10% have left academic life. Many of these former students now occupy a prominent position in the scenario of teaching and research in Pharmacology in Brazil. As for the international aspect, the laboratories linked to the program maintain collaborations with several institutions from different parts of the world, which results in joint projects and publications.
