The Literature course is characterized by establishing a critical reflection focused on the phenomena of language in all its manifestations. Graduates in Literature may, in addition to dedicating themselves to teaching in primary, secondary or higher education and to research activities, come to perform other functions in society, such as publishing, text production, literary criticism, translation and other professions. that require knowledge of languages, practice in working with texts and knowledge of foreign cultures.

The course begins with a basic, introductory year, intended to provide elements for understanding the functioning of human language and subsidies for the disciplines that will be studied later. At the end of the basic year, the student, according to pre-established criteria, will choose the area in which he/she wishes to qualify. You can opt for a simple qualification (178 credits – ideal duration of 08 semesters), in one of the following specialties: Portuguese (177 credits – ideal duration of 08 semesters), German, Arabic, Armenian, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French, Greek, Hebrew, English, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian or Linguistics. In all cases, the study of a language aims not only at learning it, but also at reflecting on its literature.

The student can also opt for a double qualification (185 credits – ideal duration of 10 semesters), in Portuguese and a Foreign Language and Literature, or in Portuguese and Linguistics (ideal duration of 08 semesters). Qualification in Portuguese is made possible and guaranteed to all who wish to do so
