The professional master's degree in speech therapy (MPO) allows you to develop the skills necessary for speech therapy practice with various clienteles, ranging from newborns to the elderly. At the same time, develop a knowledge of the scientific approaches used in speech therapy allowing you to critically analyze the scientific research carried out in this area.

General eligibility conditions

To be eligible as a regular student, the candidate must meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

To meet the Université de Montréal average of 3.0 out of 4.3, candidates from this province must meet the following requirements:

Accepted diploma: Baccalaureate, Bachelor; duration of 3 years, or other undergraduate degree deemed equivalent.

Conditions specific to this program

To be eligible as a regular student for the Professional Masters in Speech Therapy, the candidate must:

  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
  • hold a bachelor's degree in a related field such as cognitive neuroscience or linguistics.
  • have successfully completed the following prerequisite courses: - 3 credits in statistics (PSY1004 or equivalent) - 3 credits in basics of cognitive neuroscience (PSY1048 or equivalent) - 6 credits in developmental psychology, i.e. the combination of PSY 1095 (or equivalent) and one of the following two courses: PSE 1203 (or the equivalent) or PSY 2254 (or the equivalent) - 3 credits in linguistics (LNG1080 or LNG1140 or the equivalent) - 3 credits in language acquisition LNG 2002 (or equivalent)- 3 credits in clinical phonetics (ORA1531, from September 2023) or LNG1400 or equivalent (if the course was taken before September 2023). At least 9 credits must be completed by the application deadline.
  • have obtained, in the 1st cycle, an average of at least 3.3 out of 4.3 (or the equivalent) or the average required by the original university for admission to a 2nd cycle program, if this is higher;
  • take the CASPer Test (TECT online). Detailed information is available here: admission.umontreal.ca/casper-examination;
  • have done, over the last two years, at least 30 hours of volunteering with children and 15 hours with seniors or have experience in the job market working with these clienteles. The candidate must ask the institution where the volunteering/employment was carried out to complete the Certificate of Experience form and send it to the Admission and Recruitment Department
