The doctorate in religious sciences allows you to discover or deepen the different faces of spirituality and to interpret the manifestations of religion in society. The religious sciences programs at UdeM offer a description, analysis and understanding of religious phenomena based mainly on anthropology, history, philosophy, sociology, psychoanalysis, cultural studies and political sciences, but also in critical dialogue with theology.

To be eligible as a regular student, the candidate must meet the general eligibility conditions (section XX) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Required diplomas and admission thresholds: Quebec

To meet the Université de Montréal average of 3.3 out of 4.3, candidates from this province must meet the following requirements:

Degree accepted: Masters, Masters; duration: 2 years

Conditions specific to this program

To be eligible as a regular Ph.D. student (religious sciences), the candidate must:

  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XX) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
  • hold a master's degree in religious sciences or provide proof of training deemed equivalent
  • have obtained an average of at least 3.3 out of 4.3 or the equivalent in the 2nd cycle
The candidate must have a good knowledge of the French and English languages, as well as any other language, ancient or modern, deemed necessary for the pursuit of their research.
