The educational program Master in Human Nutrition, Maternal and Child orientation, was created and approved in August 1998; It has been restructured and modified in the years 2006, 2016 and 2021 by the Academic Board of the program, with approval by the General University Council.
The University of Guadalajara is a public Institution that has assumed a social commitment to the Jalisco community and the country, and accepts its obligations for the training of professional human resources of excellence, in the generation, application and dissemination of knowledge.
The relevance and feasibility of this educational program is achieved for two fundamental reasons: 1. The inclusion of two population groups (the child and the mother) that have a national strategic importance due to their number (more than 60% of the population) and because they represent the human reserve that requires more attention from a nutritional point of view. During pregnancy and the first years of life, conditions are acquired that can determine a state of adequate health and nutrition in the future, or the predisposition to suffer from chronic diseases. Furthermore, it is the population most vulnerable to malnutrition syndrome due to the magnitude and multiplicity of its adverse effects, which can be irreversible, both due to deficiency and excess. 2. The experience of more than 30 years in the field of research, teaching and extension in the area of study, of the base group that makes up the professors responsible for the Program.
The Master in Human Nutrition Maternal and Child orientation has a biannual (generational) entry and has trained twelve generations since its opening. Since 2009 it has been incorporated into the CONACYT National Postgraduate System.
