The Interinstitutional Doctorate in Psychology (DIP) has its antecedents in the work meetings of the Interinstitutional Postgraduate Committee of the Public Universities of the Central-Western Region of the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES), in which they participate the following Higher Education Institutions (IES): the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, Autonomous University of Nayarit, University of Colima, University of Guadalajara, University of Guanajuato and the Michoacana University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo. In the work meetings, the relevance for the creation of a postgraduate program at the doctoral level in the region was determined, based on the need to increase academic competitiveness in the area of Psychology, in order to promote the training of researchers of high level to improve the academic quality of the bachelor's and, above all, master's programs offered in the region, as well as the generation and transmission of knowledge in the area.

Initially, the DIP was a strategy to solve the lack of a sufficient number of full-time professors with a doctorate degree, who could individually form a Doctorate program in Psychology in the majority of the participating institutions, however, this goal The first has been achieved to a large extent by the institutions involved, thanks to the support received by the corresponding educational authorities so that teachers could integrate into the program.
