The Master's Degree in Bioethics is a postgraduate program offered by the University of Guadalajara, through the Department of Philosophy of the University Center for Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the University Center for Health Sciences, the University Center for Biological and Agricultural Sciences, the Tonalá University Center and the Los Altos University Center.

The postgraduate course is face-to-face and is professionalizing. It is integrated with three lines of Knowledge Application and Generation (LAGC): Bioethics and health, Bioethics in Technological Development and Eco-Systemic Services and Bioethics in the Social and Regulatory Field.

The proposal for the creation of the Master's Degree in Bioethics is based on the growing social need to address the uncertainties that are generated from scientific and technological development and innovation whose action or implementation has effects on the biosphere and health, generating moral uncertainties, which can find an alternative solution through the training of specialists in bioethics.

In Jalisco and Western Mexico, the Master's Degree in Bioethics is the only alternative for professional training in bioethics, taking into account the characteristics that distinguish public education, that is, with an eminently secular profile that has as its central focus the resolution of problems. that afflict society.

In this same sense, the master's degree is emerging as a cutting-edge postgraduate program that seeks to influence the solution of bioethical problems that society faces, considering the challenges that frontier science offers us with an inter, multi and transdisciplinary approach. To achieve its objectives, the master's degree establishes collaboration agreements with entities in the academic field or entities in society. In addition, the Master's Degree in Bioethics contributes to the National Strategic Programs of Conacyt by aiming to contribute to the reduction of structural violence and inequalities, as well as collaborating for the benefit of socio-ecological systems and sustainability.

The profile of bioethics, according to the international documents that define it, must be conceived as a plural and multidisciplinary discipline. This makes sense in the national context if we consider that a bioethical problem involves humanistic, social, scientific, technological and administrative aspects.. Furthermore, the cultural mosaic of our country, as well as the great inequalities of opportunities, place us in a sine qua non situation for attention to the precepts of bioethics.
