Chemistry places a strong emphasis on an understanding of the structures and properties of atoms and molecules and using this understanding to predict and interpret the behavior of matter. Many of the concepts of physics and the methods of mathematics are fundamental to chemistry. Chemistry is in turn of primary importance to many other subjects including biological sciences, environmental science, materials science, pharmaceutical science and the medicinal sciences. These and other aspects of the subject are reflected in the courses and programs offered by the department. 

 

The department of Chemistry was opened on the 2nd of August 2014 with the undergraduate program, B.Sc(Hons) in Chemistry. At present, the Department offers Bachelor of Science, B.Sc.(Hons) in Chemistry undergraduate programme and postgraduate programme leading to Master of Science (MS) degree. 

  There are 9 teachers in the department of Chemistry of which 6 teachers are currently working in the Department and 3 are on leave abroad for higher studies. Of the above posts, there are 3 professors, 2 associate professors, 2 assistant professor and 2 lecturers. Of the total numbers of teachers 5 are Ph.D degree holders.

Undergraduate degrees of various faculties at HSTU of 4 academic years comprising 8 semesters except for DVM and Bachelor of Architecture degree. DVM degree has 5 academic years comprised of 10 semesters including an internship. Each academic year has two semesters: The January-June semester and the July-December semester.
