The Department of Agro-forestry and Environment was established in 1996 at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur, Bangladesh. The department plays a major role of a four-year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (B.Sc.Ag) degree program, as well as a one and half year (18 months) Master of Science (MS) degree program in Agro-forestry and Environment.The primary objective of the department is to produce skilled professionals in agriculture and forestry who can contribute to the sustainable development of the agriculture sector of Bangladesh.The department's curriculum covers various areas of agro-forestry, farming systems and environmental issues, including sustainable crop production and multi-functional landscaping.The department has a team of highly qualified faculty members who are actively engaged in teaching, research, and extension activities.The department has laboratories and field facilities for conducting research and practical classes.The graduates of the department are working in various fields related to horticulture, forestry, environment including crop production, research and development, agribusiness, and education, in home and abroad. The department consists of 6 faculty members,3 of them are Professors,1 Associate Professor, 1 Assistant Professor and 1 Lecturers.

Undergraduate degrees of various faculties at HSTU of 4 academic years comprising 8 semesters except for DVM and Bachelor of Architecture degree. DVM degree has 5 academic years comprised of 10 semesters including an internship. Each academic year has two semesters: The January-June semester and the July-December semester.

HSTU offers Master of Science (MS), Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in various disciplines through the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies.

(Hons.) under faculty of Agriculture. Moreover, a Master of Science (M.S.) degree program in Agroforestry and Environment also offered regularly. The Department offers the following compulsory courses at undergraduate level for B.Sc. in Agriculture (Hons); AGF 101: Fundamentals of Environmental Sciences (Theory): 1 credit AGF303: Fundamentals of Environmental Sciences(Theory) : 2 credits AGF304: Fundamentals of Environmental Sciences(Practical): 1 credit The Department also offers the following elective courses at undergraduate level for B.Sc. Any student who has completed a four-year bachelor's degree, either from Bangladesh or abroad, and has taken at least one agroforestry or Environment-related course during their bachelor's program, passing with a minimum of 50% marks, is eligible to apply for the M.S. program.
The M.S. program in Agroforestry and Environment at HSTU encompasses research areas such as sustainable farming systems, environmental assessment, forest restoration and conservation, crop production under different agro-forestry systems, and maximisation of land use.
Graduates who complete courses in the Department of Agroforestry and Environment at HSTU, whether in the bachelor's or master's program, can pursue careers in various fields, including crop production and management, farming systems, forestry, environmental management, multifunctional landscaping, and ornamental plant production.
