To be eligible as a regular student, the candidate must meet the general eligibility conditions (section XX) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

To meet the Université de Montréal average of 3.3 out of 4.3, candidates from this province must meet the following requirements:

Conditions specific to this program

To be eligible as a regular Ph.D. (sociology) student, the candidate must:

  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XX of the Educational Regulations) for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
  • hold a graduate degree in sociology or provide evidence of training considered equivalent. The holder of a master's degree in a discipline other than sociology is eligible subject to the successful completion of a preparatory course imposed by the Graduate Studies Committee upon examination of his file and profile.
  • have obtained an average of at least 3.5 out of 4.3 or the equivalent in the 2nd cycle; the Department may, however, take into account the student's progress during their studies
  • demonstrate a good knowledge of French and English.
Admission is generally in the fall term. The candidate may be admitted exceptionally to the winter term, among other things when he must complete a preparatory course before starting the regular program.
