The first study cycle in HRM is designed in view to develop the following general competences: - In-depth knowledge of the history and the principal paradigms that were relevant for the development of HRM concepts; - In-depth knowledge of different schools and theories that may constitute the functional bases of the principal concepts and tools of HRM; - Knowledge about the different structural, functional and strategic configurations pertaining to the practices of HRM: - Knowledge about models, practices and tools of intervention in HRM; - Knowledge the basic tools and methodologies of research and information treatment on HRM, as indispensable modalities in the appropriation of knowledge on the part of HRM professionals; Complementary, the First cycle of Studies in HRM has as its objectives to develop a set of competences in the domain of the expertise, able to furnish the future graduate the practical tools able to allow them a rapid transference of acquired knowledge as far as the professional practice is concerned. The following are the general competences to be acquired in this area: - Knowledge of tolls for analysis, discretion and evaluation of functions: - Knowledge of recruiting methodologies, selection and assessment of candidates; - Knowledge of the methodologies to build portfolios of competences; - Knowledge of the methodologies for performance evaluation; - Knowledge of the methodologies for career management in national and international context; - Knowledge of tools to treat information in HRM, namely in the areas of Administrative Management of HR and in the systems of Information in HRM; - Knowledge of working legislation and of comprehensive models of Labour Relations allowing for a better action concerning the processes of regulation of labour conflicts: - Knowledge of informatics tools related to HRM; This study cycle aims at giving future graduates a deep comprehension of the principal challenges that face the future of HRM, as well as a critical vision indispensable to the correct adequation of acquired knowledge and competences to the nature of each context. The operativeness of these objectives shall be done through the following elements of practical action: - Theoretical classes articulated with theoretical/practical classes;

- A qualified body of teachers, many of them with valuable experience in the area of HRM;

- Progressive academic qualification of the existing teaching staff, reinforcing their competences in the field with pedagogic and scientific competences; - General meting of teachers, organized by the Course Coordination, where the politics for the scientific and pedagogic coordination of the course shall be defined.
