The degree is proposed with a strong professional base and with the aspiration that students can obtain those skills and competencies currently required by companies and institutions, with a view to increasing their employability options.
Every day the implications of the change in current Journalism become more evident, as a consequence of the loss of relevance of paper in favor of digital media. The Internet has become the great beneficiary to the detriment of printed newspapers and magazines, entities that are currently experiencing delicate situations.
This reality has a first impact on the situation of Journalism as a profession. The lack of definition of the business models of journalistic companies in the face of digital convergence is a reality. It is a fact that both traditional titles and new digital projects started in recent years suffer. This changing situation should not prevent us from looking at successful initiatives that are seeing their subscribers grow in a domain characterized by multiplatforms.
Beyond the impact of the economic crisis, there is also evidence of a fragile labor market, with continuous reductions in workforce, and which requires professionals to prepare for precarious working conditions. Added to this is what is called the growing “autonomization” of the journalistic profession. As stated in the "Annual Report on the Journalistic Profession 2015", 25% of journalists who are in an active situation belong to this job category and 65% affirm that journalism, in the future, will be closely linked to this figure.
The Master aims to answer this question: that the graduate knows a changing professional situation, in need of new and innovative journalistic projects. In fact, in recent years there have been many experiences launched by professionals, mainly in the digital context, which show a high percentage of success and consolidation. In short, the labor context recommends training professionals with a vision of entrepreneurship in which they have not been previously trained.
