The M1 course in applied physics offers general education intended to train students who master different aspects of contemporary physics. It offers a progressive specialization organized around two main areas:

  • Energy and macroscopic physics
  • the physics of two infinities – from the infinitely large to the infinitely large
At the beginning of their M1, students are led at the start of their M1 to choose between these two themes which naturally extend into the different standard paths of professional M2 and applied research. The second semester is built from only optional courses allowing students to deepen their chosen field while developing a wide spectrum of skills and knowledge.


The training in M1 is based on courses presenting the fundamental concepts on a high quality experimental platform benefiting from the contribution in skills, know-how and partly in equipment from the neighboring laboratories. This richness of experimental teaching develops the acquisition of specific skills that depend on familiarity with standard experimental research instruments, an asset that can be reinvested within the framework of a pursuit in thesis or in business.
