KNU named after J.Balasagyn is implementing the following objectives in the field of teaching and education of students in the direction of bachelor's studies 520400 "Geography" :
Training of qualified specialists who possess a set of knowledge, technical means, methods and ways of research of geo-components, natural and anthropogenic geosystems, control and management of environmental impacts, rational use and reproduction of natural resources to ensure sustainable socio-economic and political development of society, as well as to pedagogical activity. To generate in students such social and personal qualities as: purposefulness, orderliness, diligence, responsibility, civility, sociability, communicativeness, tolerance, increasing the general culture of students, etc.
A student - future Bachelor of Geography can choose one of the existing profiles for his/her training:
- Physical Geography;
- Economic, social, and political geography.
Areas of professional activity of graduates are:
- project, analytical, survey, scientific and research, production, marketing, expert, consulting institutes, bureaus, centers, departments, firms, companies, state corporations, etc..;
- republican and regional nature protection and environmental management bodies: Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry, Ministry of Education and Science, regional and rayon self-government bodies;
- academic and governmental research organizations;
- institutions of higher and secondary vocational and supplementary education, secondary general education, and public education;
- public organizations and foundations.
Bachelor's degree students in the direction "Geography" are studying the following disciplines of the professional cycle:

- Meteorology and climatology

- Geography of soils with the basics of soil science
- Biogeography
- Landscape science
- Population Geography with the Basics of Demography
- Physical geography of continents and oceans
- Economic, social, and political geography of the world and Kyrgyzstan
- Methods of physical and economic-geographical studies
- Geomorphology with the basics of geology
- Cartography with the basics of topography

- Methods of teaching geography

Bachelor's degree student in the direction of study 520400 "Geography" should be able to solve the following tasks:
1) In project, industrial, survey, and analytical activities:
- development of practical recommendations on the use and preservation of natural conditions and resources, design of standard environmental protection measures;
- ecological and economic optimization of economic activities in the regions, development of measures to reduce environmental risks, regional diagnostics and monitoring of natural components, landscape design;
- creation of thematic maps and geoinformation databases, regional physiographic, and socio-economic diagnostics of countries, regions, and cities, socio-economic analysis of development of regions of Kyrgyzstan, development of geographical aspects of marketing and management activities of particular enterprises, firms, and corporations;
- development of practical recommendations on regional socio-economic development, economic-geographical and physical-geographical expertise of various types of project analysis;
- designing of tourist and recreational systems, development of tourist and excursion routes, regional and departmental programs of tourism development;
- solving engineering-geographical problems.
2) In scientific and research activities
- Conducting comprehensive geographical research of sectoral, regional, national and global problems under the guidance of specialists and qualified researchers;
- assessment of environmental impacts, identification and diagnosis of problems of nature protection and systems of interaction between society and nature, solution of ecological-geographical problems related to sustainable development under the guidance of specialists and qualified researchers;
- analysis of private and general problems of rational use of natural conditions and resources in nature management under the guidance of specialists and qualified researchers;
- analyzing the regularities of formation of spatial structures of geosystems, economy and population, forms of organization of life of society, analysis and forecast of development of geosystems, territorial socio-economic systems of different levels, territorial organization of society, location of productive forces under the guidance of specialists and qualified researchers;
- assessment of the tourism and recreational potential of the territories under the guidance of specialists and qualified researchers.
3) In control and audit and expert activities:
- preparation of documentation for comprehensive geographical expertise of various types of projects;
- participation in control and auditing activities, socio-economic and environmental audit;
- participation in the development and implementation of standards for the quality of life of the population
- participation in the preparation of expert opinions on the feasibility of implementation of certain projects in the use of natural conditions and resources, transport, production, survey, landscape, and environmental activities of enterprises, organizations, and government departments.
4) In administrative and management activities:
- participation in the work of administrative management bodies;
- management of socioeconomic, migration, demographic, and environmental processes and activities in public authorities.
5) In pedagogical activity:
- teaching and educational work in secondary general education schools, gymnasiums, lyceums, and colleges on condition of mastering the corresponding educational and professional program of pedagogical profile.
