Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn is one of the leading state universities of the Kyrgyz Republic ensuring the unity of scientific and educational activities. Over the years of its existence from 1925 to 2024, the University has transformed into a modern multidisciplinary, scientific, educational, cultural and educational institution with a wide scope of international cooperation.
KNU named after J. Balasagyn provides training in 139 educational programs and 15 branches of science, including: undergraduate - 69 directions; specialty - 7 specialties; Master's degree - 50 directions; PhD doctoral studies - 13 directions; postgraduate and doctoral studies - 15 branches of science and 75 scientific specialties.
Currently, about 1,700 teachers work at the University, and more than 26,000 students study at the University.
The implementation of scientific and educational programs is ensured by 10 Institutes, 16 faculties with 86 departments and divisions equivalent to departments. Kyrgyz National University is equipped with all necessary laboratories and facilities to conduct research and education. There are 131 laboratories, workshops and studios for scientific research and practical work.
KNU named after J. Balasagyn took 1st place in 2020 among universities of the Kyrgyz Republic with category A according to the results of the international ranking of the European Chamber of Science and Industry ARES-2020/
In the 4th quarter of 2023, KNU took 5th position in the independent international ranking of organizations and researchers from Kyrgyzstan for scientific publications in indexed foreign publications Web of Science and Scopus, based on the composite H-index indicator based on the results of the Kyrgyz National H-index Ranking
KNU has built a system of pedagogical work to ensure the intellectual, spiritual, cultural, and professional growth of students, creating optimal conditions for the development of their creativity, initiative, meaningful leisure, and a healthy lifestyle.
The Rectorate determines and develops the policy of students' life together with the heads of structural units, coordinates it together with student self-government bodies, and participates in various public events, provides social support and material assistance to students.
Psychological support of students in case of such necessity is realized by employees of the department of psychology and doctors of the student polyclinic.
The Council of Young Scientists exists in KNU as the scientific community whose purpose is the realization of the creative potential of young scientists of KNU, and rendering them all possible support to their initiatives. Our students can present the results of their scientific research at annually conducted international, national, and inter-university conferences, as well as at various seminars and meetings devoted to scientific and educational issues, according to the results of which the best student work is determined, the winners are awarded by encouraging material gifts, prizes, and personal scholarships. To motivate students to research activities, their academic mobility is organized.
111 student societies function in KNU, including: scientific student societies, comedy clubs, dance groups, vocal groups, theater troops, sports sections presented impressive results through taking top places in various international competitions.
The University has a Press Service, which is engaged in working on the official website of the University, as well as uploading information on social networks, i.e. Facebook, Instagram and YouTube;
There is a TV Studio "Balasagyn - TV", Media Center and Production Center under the Faculty of Journalism and Communications, which professionally produces videos, films, and stories and has close cooperation with all media organizations in Kyrgyzstan.
The University has a Career Center, which works closely with employers, concludes agreements with enterprises, assists students in employment, participates in and organizes fairs, and organizes visits to enterprises for students.
Our Mission is to preserve and increase educational and scientific potential, relying on classical and innovative achievements. To become a center of training of national intelligentsia, creating national ideals and implementing national projects.
