This MS program places the study of war and security issues within the context of past and present scientific knowledge, state practice, and human experience. It develops a deep practical and theoretical understanding of the ways soft and hard power is exercised among states. It explores how conflicts are managed and security maintained across the local, regional, and global landscapes. More specifically, it covers the pressing geostrategic and geopolitical issues of our age, such as the great power competition, law and politics of war, strategic stability, cyber security, and strategic responses to the problems of war and warfare. As part of this program, it is hoped that students will take advantage of the program\'s location in the nation’s capital and close relationship with the policy, diplomatic, and security communities. Students will develop connections and get practical expertise through seminars, roundtables, and guest lectures. Successful completion of this program will equip the students with the expertise needed to work in the wider security community, including government, research organizations with foreign affairs, defense, or intelligence roles and think tanks, civil society, and the private sector. This is a 30 credit hours degree program that consists of four core and four elective courses, each of which, entails three credit hours and is taught during the first two semesters. As part of the final research project, there is six-credit hours dissertation---needed to be completed in two semesters (at the minimum).
