The Music Therapy sequence provides academic content and clinical experiences related to competencies outlined by the American Music Therapy Association. Students who complete this degree are eligible to take the Certification Board for Music Therapists, Inc. exam. Why Study Music Therapy? “Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.†(Music Therapy Makes a Difference, American Music Therapy Association) Related Skills Develop competencies in business management, computers, marketing, or other areas to broaden range of employment possibilities. Develop a variety of skills. Become "multi talented." Confidence, personality, a positive attitude, and a love of music are important to success. Need basic tools of self-promotion. Performers often travel frequently and must be flexible regarding their work schedules. Gain experience working for a music publisher or other businesses in the entertainment industry. Ability to read musical notes accurately Ability to make critical observations Ability to concentrate and practice musical instruments for long periods Good listener Good finger responses Works well under pressure Team player and ability to work alone Creativity
