Doctoral in Special Education

The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Special Education is offered by Illinois State University for persons seeking leadership positions in special education. Highly individualized programs based on the student's education, professional experience and career plans are offered and include formal coursework, independent study, professional practice, and a dissertation. It is designed to prepare candidates for leadership positions in special education with training in teacher education, program design and management, and research and evaluation. Work leading to the Ed.D. degree includes core coursework in legal and policy issues affecting special education program administration, evaluation of special education programs, and contemporary topics in special education. A master's degree and relevant professional experience are required.
