The School of Art at Illinois State University offers full tuition waivers and graduate assistantships for candidates in the MFA program. The School of Art has approximately twenty-five students working in a multi-disciplinary program within a large university setting. Students emphasize one studio discipline, and are encouraged to explore others, including video, digital, and web-based work. A sixty-credit program, the MFA can be completed in two years although the majority of ISU graduate students distribute their course of study over three years. The School of Art offers an interdisciplinary program with an excellent faculty, extensive facilities, visiting artist residencies and lectures, individual graduate studio spaces, and opportunities to assist in classroom teaching. Each MFA student mounts a solo exhibition in the University Galleries in partial fulfillment of their degree requirement, and will participate in MFA group exhibitions during their time in the program. The School provides a supportive atmosphere that fosters active studio practice, rigorous intellectual inquiry, and the development of a mature body of work.
