The PhD in Social and Political Sciences program aims to train academics, researchers capable of generating and applying, from a critical and constructive perspective, scientific knowledge to current social, political, economic and cultural problems, through the formulation of theoretical arguments and empirical evidence, and its dissemination in spaces within and outside the academy. Specific objectives include: generating original research that contributes significantly to the existing knowledge on political, social, economic, and cultural problems; proposing solutions to social, political, economic, and cultural problems at local, national, or international levels, in order to contribute to the development of a more just, egalitarian and supportive society; disseminating the results of research within and outside academic circles, through the organization and participation in forums, development of academic publications and dissemination, and formulation of research projects, to promote their use for the design of public policies that seek to solve the most profound and priority problems that affect society; AND building networks within the academic sector, and with the social, private, and public sectors, to collaborate in the development of research focused on the resolution of social, political, economic and cultural problems.

 To be admitted into a graduate program, students must pass the Exam III (CENEVAL), which is an exam in Spanish required for admission. The exam may be taken at the IBERO or at CENEVAL centers throughout Mexico.

 International students who do not live in Mexico may take the exam after their arrival at the university on the first date the exam is offered at the university.
