The PhD in Modern Letters program aims to train researchers capable of generating original and critical knowledge of literary and theatrical phenomena, in academic and non-academic contexts, using theoretical and methodological tools and the exercise of verbal skills and a critical attitude towards contemporary socio-cultural inequalities. Specific objectives include: generating original and complex knowledge through research in accordance with the theoretical and methodological tools that each line of research employs; critique modern and contemporary literary and theatrical phenomena in order to be a counterweight to sociocultural inequality; AND collaboratively evaluating disciplinary and interdisciplinary projects based on theoretical and methodological approaches transferable to diverse professional contexts.

 To be admitted into a graduate program, students must pass the Exam III (CENEVAL), which is an exam in Spanish required for admission. The exam may be taken at the IBERO or at CENEVAL centers throughout Mexico.

 International students who do not live in Mexico may take the exam after their arrival at the university on the first date the exam is offered at the university.
