The applied engineering and technology program provides a broad education that emphasizes the study of materials, processes, and management. The program is designed to prepare technical or technical management-oriented professionals for employment in business, industry, and government. Individuals interested in working with people, materials, and processes will find applied engineering technology provides an excellent foundation for a challenging career. Students will have the opportunity to: learn the concepts of applied engineering and related technologies in areas of robotics, automation, mechanical, construction, energy, manufacturing, computer integration, digital media, and web design/development; obtain knowledge and skills through hands-on learning in innovative laboratory facilities and through internships; research emerging technologies with faculty mentors through applied projects; participate in student-led professional organizations; join one of the most established programs on campus with an extensive alumni base in industry and academia. Construction concentration coursework includes study in the areas of architectural drafting, surveying, cost estimating, construction equipment and materials, construction management, and business law. Persons graduating with a B.S. in Applied Engineering and Technology with a concentration in construction typically pursue careers as construction project managers, production supervisors, cost estimators, codes and standards engineers, and quality control engineers. A minimum of 15 semester hours of coursework is required and may be selected from the following list. AET 2253 - construction equipment and materials, AET 3213 - surveying and site planning, AET 3223 - architectural drafting and blueprint reading, AET 3603 - mechanical systems in residential and commercial buildings, AET 3803 - sustainable construction, AET 4223 - construction cost estimating, AET 4243 - construction project management and BUS 2750 - legal and social environment of business.
