Bachelor of Science in Business (BSB) in Management - Human Resources Concentration

The management major prepares students to lead and coordinate people, activities, and systems to achieve organizational goals through focusing on the critical functions of managers: planning, organizing, controlling, and directing. There is no typical career path for management majors. The knowledge and skills developed through the major provide students career flexibility. Finding an entry level position immediately after college requires management majors to start career planning early by identifying their own strengths and career criteria and researching opportunities that meet those needs. Internships are an excellent way to explore those opportunities. Students in each concentration develop knowledge and skills needed for entry level positions that serve as a foundation for career growth. Students who specialize in certain areas may obtain certifications after college. Those who are interested in becoming upper level executives generally work for a few years and then pursue a graduate degree such as the MBA. Students who succeed as management majors are: adaptable and flexible, analytical, problem solvers, planners, decision makers, people oriented, goal oriented and leaders. The management major curriculum emphasizes: analytical skills, ability to interpret data, planning and organizing, research skills, written communication, presentation skills, problem solving and teamwork. Career resources in management are: restaurant and food service managers; advertising; marketing and public relations managers; health service managers; retail sales supervisors and managers; general managers and executives; industrial production managers; human resource managers and labor relations specialists; administrative services and facilities managers; management analysts and consultants; purchasing managers and buyers.
