English is a 3-year bachelor's program, where you get the opportunity to acquire extensive knowledge of the English-speaking countries with special emphasis on the United Kingdom and the United States, and you gain strong oral and written skills in English. The education consists of the following main areas:
 Practical language and linguistics
  •  Social science and historical conditions
  •  Literary and media studies
  • Cultural studies
AAU's English education is the only one in Denmark where you have an independent cultural science dimension and also the only one where you work with a broad text concept that includes both traditional literary science and works in other genres and media. An education in English provides many job opportunities, from both teaching to communication and communication. Through electives, choice of project topics and side subjects, you have the opportunity to organize your education so that it suits your interests and you can target it to the areas you are passionate about.

Admission to the bachelor's program presupposes fulfillment of the following requirements or documentation of equivalent qualifications:

  • Passed entrance exam
  • Dansk A
  • English A
  • History B or history of ideas B or contemporary history B
  • Another language (beginner language A or advanced language B)

NOTE!  From admission 2023, there will be a requirement to pass an entrance examination with a quotient of at least 4.0.

Aalborg University offers interdisciplinary studies where bachelor courses (basic study programmes) are followed by masters and Ph.D. courses (subsequent specialisation). The university offers 10 different undergraduate programmes in English across five faculties:

  • The Faculty of Humanities
  • The Technical Faculty of IT and Design
  • The Faculty of Social Sciences
  • The Faculty of Engineering and Science
  • The Faculty of Medicine


Each of the five faculties has its own schools with full time bachelor education spanning over three years and designed to prepare students for master and Ph.D. education at a high academic and international level. Since the Ph.D. programmes are focussed on training researchers, students are researching independently and being actively involved in Aalborg’s research community.

All study programmes at AAU are based on a unique model of teaching and learning: the problem based and project organized model based on real life challanges, also referred to as "The PBL Model" and "The Aalborg Model".
