By studying the physical forces that shape the earth and the political, economic, social and environmental matters that happen as a consequence of human interactions with the earth, geographers are able to find solutions for complex problems at local, regional and global scale. No doubt that geography skills are very important: climate change, urbanization, pollution, mobility, energy supply, geographers will help to understand and plan for a sustainable future.  Field work is very important for geographers. Data, which geographers need to solve the complex problems we face today, has often to be found in the field: sampling, measurements, observations or interviews. A geographer definitely does not sit in the office all day! In an era of ‘big data’ geographers can provide the skills and tools to support decision-making and planning across government and industry. Geographic Information System (GIS) is the most used software for geographers. GIS helps to display (new) geographical contexts.
