BA (Hons) Scheme in Chinese History and Culture
Programme Aims
The programme is designed to equip students with knowledge in Chinese history and culture as well as personal skills which they can apply in pursuing their career and in making contributions to the government, economy and society of Hong Kong, China and the rest of the world. The general aim of the programme is to educate and train its students into individuals who are strongly committed to self-cultivation and the welfare of the community;
  1. culturally enriched and effective in communication skills;
  2. respectful of the rule of law;
  3. socially responsible; and
  4. observant of business ethics and business common-sense.

Specifically, the graduate of the programme will be able to become


  1. Competent professionals: Graduates should be able to integrate and to apply in-depth discipline knowledge and specialised skills that are fundamental to functioning effectively as an entry-level professional (professional competence); understand the global trends and opportunities related to their professions (global outlook); and demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and skills in their work, including the discovery and use of opportunities, and experimentation with novel ideas (entrepreneurship).
  2. Critical thinkers: Graduates should be able to examine and critique the validity of information, arguments and different viewpoints, and reach a sound judgment on the basis of credible evidence and logical reasoning.
  3. Effective communicators: Graduates should be able to comprehend and communicate effectively in English and Chinese, orally and in writing, in professional and daily contexts.
  4. Innovative problem solvers: Graduates should be able to identify and define problems in professional and daily contexts, and produce creative and workable solutions to the problems.
  5. Lifelong learners: Graduates should recognise the need for continual learning and self-development, and be able to plan, manage and improve their own learning in pursuit of self-determined development goals.
  6. Ethical leaders: Graduates should have an understanding of leadership and be prepared to serve as a leader and a team player (leadership and teamwork); demonstrate self-leadership and psychosocial competence in pursuing personal and professional development (intrapersonal competence); be capable of building and maintaining relationship and resolving conflicts in group work situations (interpersonal competence); and demonstrate ethical reasoning in professional and day-to-day contexts (ethical reasoning).
  7. Socially responsible global citizens: Graduates should have the capacity for understanding different cultures and social development needs in the local, national and global contexts (interest in culture and social development); and accept their responsibilities as professionals and citizens to society, their own nation and the world (social, national and global responsibility)

Admissions and tuition fees
Admission requirements vary by subject. If you are sitting the International Baccalaureate, for instance, aim to score at least 24 points in total, with at least grade four in two of your higher level subjects. Read guidelines on international admission requirements here.

Full-time bachelor’s students in the 2017-18 academic year will be charged HK$120,000 (approximately US$15,585) per academic year.

If you are a non-native English speaker and haven’t received an undergraduate qualification from an English-language university, you would need to fulfill the University’s requirement on TOEFL or IELTS.
