Today's biotechnology includes a set of highly sophisticated techniques and technologies that are replacing classical methodologies, favouring more immediate results and making it possible to tackle new challenges that were unthinkable until a few decades ago. Nowadays, highly qualified professionals are required to be able to face the new challenges that this biotechnological sector is facing, in both the business and research fields.

The Master's Degree in Advanced Biotechnology aims to be a quality postgraduate offer potentially useful for graduates in Biotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Chemistry, Veterinary Medicine, Environmental Sciences, Marine Sciences and Chemical or Agricultural Engineering, as well as a way to train professionals and doctors among the graduates of these degrees.

The main objective is to provide these professionals with advanced training in Biotechnology, of a specialised and multidisciplinary nature, providing them with the necessary tools to promote initiation in research and professional tasks. For this reason, the objective of this master's degree is twofold:

  • Professional: To train students who intend to work professionally in the biotechnology industry and/or to update the knowledge and improve the training of professionals already working in this field.
  • Academic-Research: To train students who intend to join scientific biotechnology research centres in the research teams of public and private organisations and companies.

Access and admission criteria

Official University Degree:

  • Degrees from the branch of Experimental Sciences, Health or Technology.
  • Spanish official degree or another issued by a higher education institution of the European Higher Education Area that authorizes access to master's degrees in the country that issued the degree.
  • Official titles outside the EHEA, without the need for homologation, as long as they prove an equivalent level of training. 

Non-Spanish speaking students:

  • Prove that they have sufficient knowledge to follow the master's degree.
  • Declaration of learning Spanish, by enrolling in courses for foreigners offered by the University or equivalent.

Student selection:

  • Each application will be evaluated based on the documentation submitted and required for access and admission.
  • The applicant's Curriculum vitae will be evaluated representing (85%) of the qualification. Previous qualifications and training will be valued.
  • Letter of declaration of interest and reasons and letters of reference from their home institutions (15%).
  • Optionally, personal interviews, in order to assess, clarify or clear up doubts about the alleged merits or even a possible tie between candidates.
