The Division of Occupational Therapy is pleased to offer a professional doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD) to individuals with a degree in occupational therapy from an entry-level educational program. We offer this program completely online, making it a great choice for working professionals all over the world. Applicants to this program must be certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) or equivalent in their country of residence/practice and have at least two years of practice as an OT. Our OTD program accommodates students holding either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree level with specific paths for both. The focus of the OTD is to provide clinicians with a stronger, more up-to-date theoretical base; advance their leadership skills; and provide them with knowledge and skills in evidence-based research related to their chosen area of emphasis. Common to both tracks is the doctoral level courses which total 36 credits; including foundational courses, core curricular courses, and a capstone project that serves as the culminating project which demonstrates the student’s level of scholarship. Students applying to the program who have earned a Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy take up to an additional 24 credits of coursework. The specific number of credits required will be determined based on an evaluation of the transcripts from the student’s baccalaureate program. Candidates must complete all course work with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better with no course grades below C. Candidates must also successfully complete the requirements of the capstone project.
