Oregon State University's Applied Economics Graduate Program offers MS/MA degrees in Applied Economics. The curricula provide, at both Masterâ€™s and Doctoral levels: (i) a foundation of rigorous core courses in economic theory, econometrics, and other quantitative methods; and (ii) areas of concentration in resource and environmental economics, trade and development, and other open fields tailored to studentâ€™s interest. Students employ economic theory and methods to examine important real-world problems with significant attention to the relevant institutions, contexts, and data. The program is designed and staffed by OSUâ€™s distinguished Graduate Faculty of Applied Economics, drawn from the Departments of Agricultural and Resources Economics; Forest Ecosystems and Society; Forest Engineering, Resources, and Management; the School of Social and Behavioral Health Sciences; and the Economics Program in the School of Public Policy. The Applied Economics Graduate Program provides students with a strong foundation in economic theory, and quantitative methods while preserving sufficient flexibility to specialize in their areas of interest. The core curriculum includes courses in microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, in quantitative methods, and includes a set of qualifying examinations. Additional course work is required in the areas of concentration, which include: research and environmental economics, trade and development, public health economics, transportation economics, and an open area of concentration. The open area can accommodate studentsâ€™ interests in applied economic policy, sustainable development, food and climate policy, and marine issues. The hallmark of the Applied Economics Graduate Program is the training of students to understand and utilize economic theories, principles, and methods to examine real-world problems with significant attention to data, institutions, and context.
