The Bachelor of Music degree in music performance requires concentrated study in one of the following five performance areas: piano, stringed instruments, wind instruments, percussion instruments, or voice. Students who select stringed instruments or wind instruments as their performance area choose one instrument as their major instrument. Students who do not meet the minimal standards of musicianship of the College of Music may need to be enrolled in the bachelor's degree program in music performance more than the usual four years in order to qualify for a degree. A Specialization in Piano Pedagogy is available as an elective to students who are enrolled in the bachelor's degree program in music performance with piano as the performance area. A jazz studies minor is available as an elective to students who are enrolled in the bachelor's degree program in music performance. The University requirements for bachelor's degrees as described in the Undergraduate Education section of this catalog; 120 to 132 credits, including general elective credits, are required for the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance.
