This major provides academic preparation designed to enable the graduate to enter the profession of interior design. The program has been accredited by the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research (F.I.D.E.R.). Emphasis is placed on learning the means of satisfying functional and aesthetic requirements appropriate for a variety of specific interior spatial uses. Consideration is given to the human being and the micro–environment in the total complex of environmental relationships. The combination of courses and experiences provides students an opportunity to develop knowledge, skills, and insights needed to solve design problems creatively and effectively. Students meeting the university admissions requirements are enrolled as freshmen and sophomores in the Neighborhood Student Success Collaborative but may declare a major preference for Interior Design. The University requirements for bachelor's degrees as described in the Undergraduate Education section of this catalog; 120 credits, including general elective credits, are required for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design.
