Program Purpose: The Graduate Program in Chemical Engineering at the University of Utah prepares engineering professionals who are trained in depth in their selected area of research and in sufficient breadth to successfully transition to new areas of research, as needed. The graduate training in our department is designed to provide the foundation for life-long learning, instill independent and critical thinking, and develop technical skills needed to solve challenging technical problems. Learning Outcomes: At the MS nonthesis level, the graduating students should demonstrate: Understanding of core chemical engineering topics at a level that clearly exceeds undergraduate expectations. Effective oral and written technical communication skills. At the MS thesis level, the graduating students should demonstrate: Understanding of their selected area of research at a level that clearly exceeds undergraduate expectations. Ability to conduct supervised research and to make personal contributions towards the solution of posed problems. Effective technical communication skills. Ability to contribute to technical reports and peer-reviewed papers.
