The Graduate Program in Chemical Engineering at the University of Utah prepares engineering professionals who are trained in depth in their selected area of research and in sufficient breadth to successfully transition to new areas of research, as needed. The graduate training in our department is designed to provide the foundation for life-long learning, instill independent and critical thinking, and develop technical skills needed to solve challenging technical problems. Learning Outcomes Intellectual contributions to the selected area of research as evidenced by the publication of at least two peer-reviewed papers in archival journals, transactions, or proceedings. Expertise in their selected area of research that exceeds or equals that of their advisors, members of the supervisory committee, and the department’s faculty. Ability to conduct independent research, generate novel ideas, design a research program, and take responsibility for its execution, and its conclusions. Ability to effectively communicate the results of their research. Professional development through a range of activities and services such as teaching, manuscript reviews, and design of research grant applications.
