The Master of Nursing Population Health (MN PH) is a practice-focused degree that is designed to educate advanced practice nurses to provide direct care to individual patients; manage care for individuals, families, groups and populations; serve as administrators in health care organizations; engage as faculty in nursing programs; develop and implement health policy; and translate research into expert practice. The MN Nursing Leadership program prepares you for an advanced practice leadership role in acute and outpatient settings. You will take the master’s core course work and additional course work in organizational leadership. You may enter the MN program with a BSN or the RN-MN program as an RN with a bachelor’s degree in any field. With this degree, you will be prepared to work as a nurse administrator or in a leadership role in a number of healthcare settings including acute care, public health, outpatient clinics, home healthcare, and more. MN courses are completed using a hybrid model where students participate both in class and online. Most classes meet no more than five times per semester; the remaining course work is offered online. At the conclusion of the program, the master’s graduate will be able to: Integrate scientific findings from nursing, biopsychosocial fields, genetics, public health, quality improvement, and organizational sciences for the continual improvement of nursing care across diverse settings; Implement organizational and system leadership skills to promote high quality, safe patient care that emphasizes ethical and critical decision making and effective working relationships within a systems perspective; Articulate multiple elements of quality, including methods, tools, performance measures, and quality standards, and apply these within an organization; Apply research outcomes within the practice setting to resolve practice problems, and work as a change agent to disseminate these results; Use patient-care technologies to deliver and enhance care, including communications technologies to integrate and coordinate care; Intervene at the systems level through policy development, and employ advocacy strategies to influence health and healthcare; Communicate, collaborate, and consult with other healthcare professionals as a member or leader of inter-professional teams to manage and coordinate care; Apply and integrate broad organizational, client-centered culturally appropriate concepts when planning, delivering, managing, and evaluating evidence in clinical prevention and population care, including services to individuals, families, and aggregates/identified populations; Articulate a broadly defined understanding of nursing practice as any form of nursing intervention that influences healthcare at the direct and indirect care levels for individuals, populations, and systems, coupled with an advanced level of understanding of nursing and relevant sciences that is integrated into direct and indirect nursing practice.
