This is a four year degree which includes a placement year in industry. The placement year will be taken in year three, where you work for a year in industry before returning to University to complete your final year of study. This degree combines the flexibility of a broad-based business degree with the option to specialise during the later stages of the course. You will be able to gain skills in all areas of business and make informed decisions about business strategy and operations. This degree is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute, allowing you to gain the CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership on successful completion of your studies. Your studies will draw on disciplines including business planning strategy, creative thinking, accounting and finance, human resources, leadership, marketing and data analysis. Assignments are work-focused so that you can apply the business knowledge you gain to real-life work practices. The course focuses on entrepreneurship, as entrepreneurs have to have good all-round understanding of their company, take a fresh innovative approach to improving business practices and identify new opportunities. You will be taught in our state of the art Business on All Saints Campus in central Manchester. We are a double-accredited business school, having gained the prestigious AACSB accreditation to provide excellence in global management education. This places us among the top 5% of business schools worldwide to have secured this accreditation and means your degree is internationally recognised. The Business School also holds Centre of Excellence status with the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE). An IOEE Centre of Excellence is accredited to organisations who promote and deliver effective enterprise and entrepreneurship skills development. Moreover, The BA (Hons) Business Management IS recognised by the IOEE for the inclusion of effective enterprise and entrepreneurship skills development. Students on this degree can become student members of the Institute. Staff teaching on this course are research active and apply their work to current business practice through informing government policy, providing consultancy services and supporting entrepreneurs. They share their ‘real world’ experience with you to ensure that you are close to the issues and emerging trends that affect the business community. There is the opportunity to take part in a Young Enterprise competition in your final year where, as a group, you will set up and operate a real life business and compete among other teams in the University. The Faculty of Business and Law hosts two Professional Development Weeks annually. Free and open to all students, this includes a festival of skills-development activities, practical support in developing your CV and employability skills, and the opportunity to network with actively recruiting graduate employers. A placement year can be an excellent opportunity to acquire high quality work experience and structured on–the-job training whilst earning a salary. There are also opportunities for you to undertake a placement based project where you research a business issue for your employer. This project can count towards one of your final year units and reduces your workload in your final year. The placement must be a minimum of 36 weeks but it will usually last for 12 months and takes place after your second year of study. We have an award-winning placement team, who advertise vacancies and can help you find a placement. The team has over 25 years’ experience of matching students to employers. They advertise over 1,000 vacancies each year, organise an annual placement fair where you can meet employers who are actively recruiting placement students, deliver CV workshops, provide one-to-one advice, and will conduct a mock interview with you so you can practice your interview technique.
