With recent political and economic developments such as Brexit, international trade agreements, foreign direct investment and the attractiveness of where companies physically conduct their business and access talent has never been as important. International trade is important because most businesses operate in the global marketplace. This degree provides you with the business knowledge and cross-cultural management skills you will need in order to develop and maintain international business relationships in often volatile political, cultural and economic/financial environments. Contemporary business case studies enable you to see how various types of businesses operate and succeed in international markets. Assessments focus on the application of the skills and knowledge you have gained to real-life business situations. We offer four-year routes where you can spend your third year on industrial placement or studying abroad at one of our overseas partner universities. You can also enhance your employability by studying a language as an integral part of the programme. This can be a language that is new to you, or one previously studied. You will be taught in the Business School’s state of the art building on All Saints Campus in central Manchester. The placement route provides the opportunity to work for a year, applying your studies to real-life business situations and ‘testing’ possible career paths. Our students have undertaken placements for Johnson and Johnson in Tokyo, Hellman Worldwide Logistics in the USA, Warner Bros in London and Lloyds TSB in Manchester. If you choose the placement route, you can work for an international employer based in the UK or overseas. If you choose the Overseas Study route you can spend a year studying abroad at one of our partner universities in the USA, Australia, Canada, China (Hong Kong), France, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Cyprus or Lithuania. Classes are usually taught in English. The units you study at the partner institution will be relevant to your international business degree. This degree uses innovative teaching methods which are supported by Moodle, podcasting and video links. The Faculty of Business and Law hosts two Professional Development Weeks annually. Free and open to all students, this includes a festival of skills-development activities, practical support in developing your CV and employability skills, and the opportunity to network with actively recruiting graduate employers.
