This is a four year degree that includes a year of study abroad, also referred to as ‘Exchange’. You will usually go on an exchange on your third year of study, so you’ll begin planning and applying for your exchange in your first and second year. Study abroad (exchange) opportunities exist throughout Europe, through the Erasmus+ programme. We also offer global exchange opportunities in the USA, Asia and Australasia. We are constantly growing our international exchange partnerships and have long-standing relationships with universities across the world who have welcomed our students as part of our exchange programme. The banking and finance sector is very diverse and encompasses banking, corporate and personal finance, investment (shares, bonds, pensions, property portfolios), wealth management, credit and risk management, financial planning, regulation and ethics, accounting and economics. By working in this sector, you are involved in managing other people’s money and assets. This can be in a direct way, such as working for the investment arm of one of the UK’s high street banks or you may be advising individual clients about how to invest their money. To build a successful career, you need to combine an expert knowledge of the sector and its specialist products with excellent communication and inter-personal skills. This is a sector where trust and professional reputations are important. This degree, which assumes no prior knowledge of the industry, is designed to develop your high-level transferable skills and to equip you with the knowledge and understanding needed to succeed in banking and finance. You will be taught in the Business School’s state of the art building on All Saints Campus in central Manchester. We are a double-accredited business school, having gained the prestigious AACSB accreditation to provide excellence in global management education. This places us among the top 5% of business schools worldwide to have secured this accreditation and means your degree is internationally recognised. All of the accounting and finance staff teaching on our programmes are professionally qualified, with many maintaining close links with the professional bodies through examination and consultancy. Staff are student-focused and have developed innovative teaching techniques involving the use of web-based learning platforms and software used by leading practitioners in the financial services sector. The Faculty of Business and Law hosts two Professional Development Weeks annually. Free and open to all students, this includes a festival of skills-development activities, practical support in developing your CV and employability skills, and the opportunity to network with actively recruiting graduate employers. We also host an annual Accounting, Finance and Economics Employer Café where you can meet and network with employers and build your network of industry contacts. As a Banking and Finance student, you will have complimentary access to Bloomberg, the leading global platform used by the world’s leading banks, corporations and government agencies for news, data, analytics and research.
