The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in art history is a four-year program that guides students through the historical study of art and professional art history methodologies and that requires a minor program of study to complement their advanced art history coursework.

The Art History Program engages students to learn about the arts, architecture, and cultures from across the globe and throughout time. Taught by nationally and internationally recognized faculty, our course offerings cover a wide range of topics including Asian art, sub-Saharan African art, the global renaissance, and art and the human condition. As an art history major, you will gain a general knowledge of art monuments, principal artists, and diverse cultural traditions; a solid foundation in art historical theory, analysis, and criticism; insight into the creative process through participation in studio art courses; a working knowledge of at least one foreign language for primary source research; and a familiarity with image archives, bibliographic databases, and cutting-edge approaches drawn from the field of digital humanities. Our rigorous program provides strong academic preparation for further study at the graduate level and for work in museums and other professional organizations in the visual arts. But a major in art history develops critical and creative thinking skills that are valuable in any professional field. We provide a strong foundation that encourages our students to thrive in a multicultural society.
