The Department of Civil Engineering was opened in 1407 AH as the third engineering department after the Departments of Islamic Architecture and Electrical and Computer Engineering, to contribute to meeting the Kingdom’s need for civil engineers, as part of the ambitious plans drawn up by the state to keep pace with the rapid urban renaissance it is witnessing, and to provide the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region and its environs with civil engineers. Qualified and studying in the same environment to learn closely about the needs of the region, and to provide them with the opportunity to contribute effectively to the wheel of development.
The program aims to familiarize the student with his environment and prepare him to meet its engineering needs, as well as develop scientific solutions for Mecca, to which hundreds of thousands of Muslims come annually to perform Hajj and Umrah.
The program also aims to graduate highly qualified engineers who can compete with their counterparts in other universities academically and professionally, and who also can continue their higher studies inside and outside the Kingdom without any obstacles
