Our part-time Child Nursing degree course is aimed at current Healthcare Support Workers and will give you the skills and experience to launch a rewarding career in this diverse and essential profession.
During this four year course you will learn about the holistic health and wellbeing needs of children, young people, and their families.
Through a mix of academic study and practical clinical experience, you will develop the professional skills to provide high quality, evidence-based nursing care and health protection measures in a range of clinical and community settings, often working as part of a multi-disciplinary team across the health and social care sectors.
We have excellent working relationships with many healthcare providers, so you will have access to a wide range of clinical experiences across south west Wales. These include placements in the NHS and independent sector in hospitals and community settings.

You must be a Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) employed and supported in a nursing role by Swansea Bay UHB, Hywel Dda UHB or Powys Health Board.


To apply you will need a minimum of BBB at A level, health or science-related courses preferable.


You will also need a minimum of 5 grade A-C GCSE passes including English/Welsh language, Maths and a Physical Science or Double Science Award.


In certain circumstances, Key Skills Level 2 in Application of Number will be accepted in lieu of GCSE Mathematics and Key Skills Level 2 in Communication will be accepted in lieu of GCSE Welsh/English Language, if undertaken since September 2015.


Alternative requirements:


Access – 60 credits overall with at least 45 at level 3 and 15 at level 2. Of the 45 credits at level 3, a minimum of 24 distinctions, 18 merits and 3 passes will be required.


BTEC – DDM


Welsh Baccalaureate – grade B and BB at A2 or DM at BTEC
