Admission Requirements

To apply for this course you must be a registered nurse with usually one year’s professional practice.  You must already be working within the community setting.
You will need to have 120 credits at Diploma level (level 5).  If you already hold a first degree and aim to seek the Specialist Practitioner qualification, then you will follow the same route and level as the BSc (Hons) and will be awarded a Graduate Diploma.
Subject to you meeting the entry criteria, you will be invited to attend for interview.  The  interview panel usually comprises of course lecturers, Health Board personnel, Service Users and either a current or previous student. In most cases the interview takes the form of a multi modal interview selection day where you will meet other applicants and asked to complete designated tasks that showcase your ability to work closely with others and to demonstrate effective communication skills.  One of the individual activities will include a numerical assessment that acknowledges the importance of numerical accuracy  that is required of all registrants undertaking the nurse prescribing programme.  Following the group tasks in the morning, you will later be invited for a short one to one interview enabling you the opportunity to ask additional questions.
All applicants will be required to have a satisfactory enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check and occupational health check. Any concerns arising from these may be considered at the School of Health and Social Care’s Professional Suitability and Fitness to Practise Panel and may result in admission to the programme being withdrawn.
