Master of Civil Engineering Technology

Built on a solid foundation in design and innovation of structures, this programme will equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to become a civil engineer. Through the selection of materials, construction methods and numerical simulations, you will be able to design constructions that are fully compliant with environmental, legal and structural rules. You will learn to translate a project from concept to realisation, arriving at a structural design that meets the relevant criteria of strength, serviceability, energy efficiency, durability, and sustainability.

About the programme

This master's programme provides the broader, advanced, scientific knowledge and skills required for success within the professional sphere. Meanwhile, this programme places a particular focus on the science of civil engineering technology. You will examine the engineering behind the construction of buildings and structures; explore the design process and understand the technical execution and latest innovations. This process is driven and supported by technological developments, such as new materials and up to date design and dimensioning methods. You will also be introduced to entrepreneurship and will enhance your skills by collaborating in a joint multidisciplinary project with master students from arts and architecture.

Programme structure

In this one-year programme, you are required to take 7 compulsory courses and you can choose 3 multicampus modules focussing on state-to-the-art topics taught by the research groups on the campuses of Ghent, Bruges and De Nayer. The programme culminates in the completion of a master’s thesis.

Career perspectives

Degree holders can apply their newly acquired scientific knowledge to a wide variety of contexts, opening a broad spectrum of professional possibilities.

Depending on your interest, your engineering profile can lead you to careers across the industry from technological expert to boardroom executive, performing a wide range of functions, including design, calculation, consultancy, sales, quality inspection and research.
