Interested in global business but lack a business or economics background? Gain the leadership skills, cross-cultural insight and business expertise needed to thrive as an international manager by immersing yourself in strategy, finance, marketing and more.

Which specialisations are available?

The Master of International Business offers students with an academic non-business degree insight into all major disciplines related to the international business world, including business economics, strategy, human resources management, marketing, corporate finance and accounting.

If, after having taken the Master of International Business, you are interested in specializing in a specific management domain, you can gain access to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) through the Preparatory Master of Business Administration. Students who choose "Track 2" during the (preparatory) Master of International Business can obtain exemptions for (some or all) course units in the preparatory MBA programme, and subsequently be allowed admission to the MBA programme. Students with a degree obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community:

Direct admission

On the basis of the following degrees, or similar degrees, obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community:

  • Bachelor in de ingenieurswetenschappen (Leuven)

Direct access does not apply to Bachelor in de ingenieurswetenschappen obtained at the Koninklijke Militaire School and the Bachelor in de ingenieurswetenschappen: architectuur. These students are admitted to the Preparatory Programme: Master of International Business.


After preparatory programme

All academic bachelor's/master's degrees obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community which do not have direct access to the Master of International Business, with the exception of the bachelor and master programmes in economische wetenschappen/Economics, toegepaste economische wetenschappen/Business Economics, handelsingenieur/Business Engineering, handelsingenieur in de beleidsinformatica/Business and Information Systems Engineering, handelswetenschappen/Business Administration, master in het management. These students are admitted to the Preparatory Programme: Master of International Business.

Students with a degree obtained at an institution outside the Flemish Community:

Diploma requirements

An academic bachelor's/master's degree in a field different from business economics and/or management.

Language requirements

An exemption from the proof of English proficiency by means of the above-mentioned tests is possible for applicants with a secondary education degree or a higher education degree earned in Australia, English speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or the USA: the degree and transcripts suffice, provided they confirm that the entire study was completed in English.

Students who completed their studies in a satellite campus which is located in another country than the main campus of the university are not eligible for an exemption from the English language proficiency certificate.

Students with a Flemish secondary education diploma and/or a Flemish academic bachelor/master degree are also exempted from the English language requirement.
