This is a UGC-funded, two-year full-time credit-based articulated honours programme offered in response to the expanding ageing population and the associated aged care workforce shortage in Hong Kong. Through this programme, students will be equipped with a full scope of knowledge and skills in planning, delivering and coordinating aged care services in a wide variety of health and social care settings.

Programme highlights for Year 1: (1) Ageing, Health and Society; (2) Basic Care in Gerontology; (3) Family and Informal Care in Ageing; (4) Promoting Successful Ageing: Individual and Societal Perspectives; (5) Psychology in Ageing: Theories and Application; (6) Chronic Disease Management in Ageing; (7) Dementia: Prevention and Management; (8) Aged Care Service Planning and Delivery Models ; (9) Ethical, Legal and Financial Issues in Ageing.

Programme highlights for Year 2: (1) Death, Dying and End-of-life Care; (2) Gerontological Practicum (Community/ Rehabilitative/ Residential care settings); (3) Health and Social Care Policy in Ageing; (4) Innovations and Evidence-based Practice for Aged Care Services; (5) Leadership and Management in Aged Care Services; (6) Elective course: a. Student Exchange Programme; b. Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Students possessing an associate degree or a higher diploma in health sciences, social sciences, psychology and counselling, human and life sciences, Chinese medicine, or other fields with a strong foundation in gerontology are welcome to apply.

General Education

General Education forms a key component of undergraduate studies at CUHK. University and College General Education courses are tailored to nurture whole-person development, foster soft-skills and cultivate a strong sense of social responsibility. The University’s General Education programme received the Exemplary Programme Award for Improving General Education from the Association for General and Liberal Studies in 2015 and the Hong Kong’s University Grants Committee Teaching Award in 2016.

 

Physical Education

As the only publicly-funded university in Hong Kong that offers a required Physical Education programme for undergraduates, CUHK is dedicated to promoting sports to enhance students’ whole-person development.

 

Co-operative education and mentorship programmes

The university-wide credit-bearing co-operative education programme, Co-op@CUHK , is designed to bridge the gap between tertiary education and the workplace by providing undergraduate students with experiential work-integrated learning opportunities at an extensive network of partner employers.
