Admission Requirements

For the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) stream under the "M.Phil.-Ph.D. Programmes", the applicant shall have:

  • a master's degree from a recognized university; or
  • graduated from a recognized university and obtained a bachelor's degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class; or
  • graduated from an honours programme of a recognized university with a bachelor's degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than "B"; or
  • completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honours degree.

In addition to general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants normally have majored in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or Physics with Electronics, or in related fields.

For non-Hong Kong university graduates, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test is highly recommended by the Division Head to ensure that the applicants have the proper preparation.

Applicants must also submit the following:

  • curriculum vitae;
  • list of research publications or related materials, e.g. patent applications;
  • research/purpose statement (about 600-800 words in English, for PhD Programme applicants only);
  • awards and other certificates.
